Operational Insight
Maintaining confidence in production biometric systems through operational data analysis.
BixeLab provides insights into biometric system operations, based on in-service data from your system.
Our services identify unusual trends, anomalies, and inconsistencies with results observed from in-laboratory testing so you can proactively manage risk during the production life of your biometric system.
What are Operational Insights?
Biometric systems generate significant amounts of in-service data: scores, sub-system outputs, undecided cases, throughput figures, and more. Reviewing the specifically biometric-related aspects of this data can often uncover important characteristics of the system’s operations.
Trends such as falling pass rates or rising scores achieved by those attempting to defraud the system can often help with planning and preparing for future operations – or refining the scope of future testing to manage risks. Anomalies consisting of unusual combinations of performance data sometimes indicate undetected activity by bad actors. And inconsistent data outputs sometimes show configuration errors across a biometric system, warranting further investigation. Where laboratory testing has been previously completed, operational characteristics can be aligned with laboratory results to ensure that risk management objectives are being met – and manage them if not.
Benefits of Reviewing Operational Insights

Operational Readiness
Ensure systems function fairly in the actual environments where they are deployed.

Forward Planning
Ensure that performance today is adequately managed for tomorrow by spotting trends and issues before they create major problems.

Maintain Public Confidence
Deliver public services with independent assurance that identity is being securely managed.
What Can Be The Subject of Operational Insights?
All biometric modes, including multi-modal systems, along with document authentication where used
Interactions between capture quality, vulnerability detection, performance and human-resolved outcomes
Rates of correct matching, incorrect matching, correct rejection and incorrect rejection
Both verification (1:1) and searching / identification (1:N) use cases
Both on-device and centralised biometrics capture and matching
Comparative insights across disparate parts of a biometric system (e.g., different capture devices, or different services across complex deployment topologies)
Interactions with demographic characteristics, where these are known
Conformance to ISO/IEC 19795 testing standards

Why Choose BixeLab?
Q: Can you get insights from end-user devices?
Yes. In-service data you capture from end-user devices is a great source of information for operational insights, and particularly important to manage given inconsistency of performance.
Q: Can operational insights help determine what to test?
Yes. Often the insights from operations help form a view on attack vectors that are of increasing importance and accessibility to bad actors in your environment. This in turn influences the selection of artefacts for future testing.
Q: What types of clients use this service?
Government border agencies, retailers, police agencies, digital identity users, critical infrastructure operators, and system integrators rely on our assurance services.
