Multi-modal
The industry is moving increasingly towards identity systems that include more than one biometric modality. The use of multiple modalities – such as face and iris recognition – can assist in mitigating the vulnerabilities that arise from the use of a single modality.
Multi-modal biometrics are used:
To mitigate risks that arise in single biometric modes.
To provide multiple identity data points for a user.
In some instances, fused together, such that two modes are captured and matched simultaneously to ensure consistent capture (e.g., face and voice with appropriate lip synchronisation).
In environments with heightened security concerns.
