Conformance

Enabling interoperability through trusted conformance and compatibility testing.

BixeLab provides independent assessment of conformance for biometric components such as sensors and data outputs.

Our services include adherence to data interchange standards, API interoperability, and target performance characteristics – across a range of compliance systems.

What Is Biometric Conformance?

As with many types of IT systems, interoperability through adherence to standardised data formats and API specifications is important to support integration of systems from disparate components. In biometrics, performance characteristics of sensors and algorithms are also important for trustworthy interoperability. Conformance, in a general sense, covers all aspects of a system or components thereof, that might be usefully standardised to support consistent operations.

Biometric conformance systems come from a range of sources. ISO/IEC standards 30107-1 (2016), 30107-3 (2017), and 30107-4 (2020) define biometric presentation attack detection frameworks, testing & reporting, and profiles for testing mobile devices. Identity frameworks such as MOSIP define API standards for interoperability. National digital identity systems often define the biometric performance criteria to be met.

BixeLab is accredited to test to several of these standards. Examples include our NVLAP (Lab Code: 600301-0) Accreditation, which covers the ISO standards mentioned above; and as proud supporters of MOSIP we are the first laboratory accredited to test to their interoperability standards.

Benefits of Testing for Conformance

Operational Readiness

Our Capabilities

As one of only three NVLAP(Lab Code: 600301-0) accredited biometric laboratories in the world, BixeLab offers trusted expertise in conformance testing relating to biometric systems and components.

Our services include:

  • Environmental and field testing of biometric systems

  • Standard data format compliance testing

  • API interoperability testing

  • Risk assessment for mission-critical systems

  • Wide ranging libraries of biometric data of different types to support algorithmic testing

  • Ability to test to many identity framework requirements

Why Choose BixeLab?

Q: Can you simulate real-world environments for testing?

Yes. We conduct laboratory and field testing under variable lighting, temperature, and usage scenarios to match your deployment conditions.

Q: Do you have data to test algorithms?

Yes, across a wide range of biometric modalities. That said, for some types of biometrics, data capture processes are required to collect new biometric data types. Some algorithms are dependent on specific acquisition processes, and in these cases we recommend scenario-style testing to properly assess performance.

Q: What types of clients use this service?

Biometric sensor manufacturers, software and firmware developers, system integrators, algorithm providers and parties relying on trusted component interoperability rely on our conformance testing services.
