BixeLab has been named the winner of the Digital and Smart Technologies category at the 2026 ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards, recognising the company’s growing international contribution to biometric and digital identity testing and assurance.
The recognition also sees BixeLab progress to the 64th Australian Export Awards as a national finalist, representing the Australian Capital Territory on the national stage.
Canberra expertise with global reach
From our laboratory in Canberra, BixeLab works with technology providers, governments and organisations around the world to independently evaluate biometric and digital identity technologies.
As these technologies become increasingly embedded in identity verification, authentication, border processing, government services and other high-assurance environments, organisations need reliable evidence that the systems they deploy are accurate, secure and fit for their intended purpose.
Independent testing helps provide that evidence.
BixeLab’s work spans areas including biometric performance, presentation attack detection, injection attack detection, demographic performance differentials and broader digital identity assurance. Through laboratory-based evaluation, we help organisations better understand how technologies perform under representative conditions and how effectively they respond to evolving security and fraud risks.
Recognition of Australian technical expertise
Winning the Digital and Smart Technologies category reflects both the specialist expertise of the BixeLab team and the international reach of the work being delivered from Canberra.
For BixeLab, exporting is not simply about taking an Australian service to overseas markets. It is about contributing independent technical evidence to an increasingly global digital identity ecosystem.
Biometric and identity technologies are frequently developed in one jurisdiction and deployed across many others. Independent evaluation can therefore play an important role in helping technology providers demonstrate capability, supporting procurement and assurance decisions, and giving governments and organisations greater confidence in the technologies they rely on.
The award is an important acknowledgement of the capability being developed within Canberra’s technology sector and of Australian expertise contributing to digital trust internationally.
Representing the ACT at the Australian Export Awards
As an ACT category winner, BixeLab will now progress to the Australian Export Awards as a national finalist in the Digital and Smart Technologies category. The Australian Export Awards ceremony will be held on 18 November. We look forward to celebrating with our fellow finalists and finding out if we are one of the 13 category award winners. We’re even in the running to be named Australian Exporter of the Year! Visit exportawards.gov.au to learn more about the Australian Export Awards finalists.
Continuing to strengthen trust in biometric and digital identity technologies
As biometric and digital identity systems continue to evolve, so too do expectations around security, performance, transparency and assurance.
BixeLab remains focused on providing independent testing that helps technology providers and deploying organisations understand how their systems perform, identify potential limitations and build stronger evidence around the technologies they bring to market or rely upon operationally.
The recognition at the 2026 ACT Chief Minister’s Export Awards is an important milestone for our team and reinforces our commitment to taking specialist Australian testing and assurance expertise to organisations around the world.
